Municipal Excellence Network

MEnet or Municipal Excellence Network is a collaborative effort of Municipal Affairs, the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, the Association of Alberta Municipal Districts and Counties, and the University of Alberta's School of Business and Government Studies program.

The main objective of Municipal Excellence is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge between the employees, administrators and councilors of municipalities throughout Alberta. One of the simplest and most effective methods used by MEnet to achieve this is the collection of municipal practices. Individuals from municipalities are encouraged to submit descriptions of successes, breakthroughs, procedures, problems solved, or simple tips that have made their jobs easier or more effective. Practices are collected on a standardized form and entered into a database which is available through our website www.menet.ab.ca. We believe that this creates a great opportunity for those working in any municipally-related field to learn from one another's successes, and has the potential to widen the community of peers to include all municipalities in the province.

The majority of AWWOA members are employed by municipalities. One of our interests at this point in the development of MEnet is getting as many municipal practices submitted as possible. If we can get enough submissions from AWWOA members, MEnet could become an easily accessible, no-cost, single-source repository of relevant information for your members. MEnet could then become a valuable tool for the sharing of knowledge in the field of water and wastewater treatment.
