At AMHSA we recognize that a number of municipal employees have taken a lot of training in the field of health and safety and deserve some recognition for that. As well we know that employees and the municipality would like some guidance in what training different staff should have, depending on their role within the municipal health and safety program. To address these issues, AMHSA is pleased to offer the following designations:
Each of these designations is described below, including the courses required to achieve the designation.
This indicates that the participant has a basic understanding of the supervisor's responsibilities for health and safety. Courses required for this certification include:
Joint Health and Safety Committee members are often expected to assist in the development and implementation of the municipality's health and safety program. Specific activities that they participate in include performing formal inspection and investigating incidents (or reviewing incident reports). Many members feel that they need more training in these areas. To receive certification as a JHSC representative, participants must take the following courses;
This is intended for those municipal employees who will be taking a lead role in coordinating the development/implementation/review of the health and safety program. These individuals could be the municipality's certified peer auditor, but this is not necessary.
Individuals intending to achieve this designation must take 12 compulsory courses and 2 electives as follows:
