Executive Member Duties

As an elected member of the executive the individual is responsible for directing the affairs of the Association. The elected Chairperson and appointed secretary conduct the meetings and the routine operations of the Association. Executive members represent operators from communities in their size category and in a geographical region at Executive meetings.

Executive meetings are held three times a year (1) November, (2) March (in conjunction with the Alberta Operators Seminar) and (3) June. The Annual General Meeting of the Association is held on the day following the March Executive Meeting. A semi annual general meeting may also be held in conjunction with the Western Canada Water and Wastewater Association Conference, if a quorum exists.

Reasonable expenses are paid by the Association for the March, June and November meetings if the Executive member's employer is not able to or will not pay travel expenses.

Executive members are expected to attend the November, March and June meetings. If more than 2 consecutive executive meetings are missed without reasonable cause, the executive member may be asked to resign.

The March (Banff) and October/November (the WCWWA Conference) meetings are held in conjunction with other events, but the June and November meetings are separate. They generally require 2 days.

The cost to the Municipality is time away from work (estimated 8 hours per day) and travel plus expense (if they are willing).

Committees coordinate the various functions of the Association. All executive members are expected to be involved in committee work. Time required for this may be an hour or two occasionally for phone calls plus a few hours of work that could be done during the day or the evening.

The benefits to the Municipality and individual include:
